Welsh Lib Dems call on Labour and Plaid AMs to join fight against university cuts

After Labour and PLaid Cymru introduced Top-Up fees in Wales, they have now cut funding

Commenting ahead of a lobby on University funding by members of the University and College Union (UCU) Cymru of Assembly Members, this lunchtime (Wednesday 24th), Welsh Lib Dem Shadow Education Minister, Jenny Randerson AM said:

 

"I'm looking forward to meeting concerned lecturers and staff to hear their concerns first hand.

 

"I hope that the Labour and Plaid AMs who attend will not just give warm words on education funding like they did last year, but will reverse their decision to vote for the budget which will see 5% cuts across the University sector, and damaging cuts to Further Education too.

 

"If Labour and Plaid backbenchers signal their willingness to support us, I'm sure the Welsh Lib Dems will find time to table a motion in the Assembly to reverse the cuts they voted for recently.

 

"Education is the key to re-balancing the Welsh economy in a stronger way. That is why it is bizarre and unfair that the Labour-Plaid government are hitting education so hard."
