Ensuring access to public transport would have led to a greener, healthier Wales

Commenting on the Government's rejection this afternoon of her private member's LCO which sought to seek powers to ensure new developments included sustainable travel plans, Welsh Lib Dem Assembly Member for Cardiff Central, Jenny Randerson AM said:

"I am disappointed that the Government has rejected bringing these powers from Westminster to help bring about a greener future.

"We need to help people live greener lives, with more access to public transport and a healthier future.

"I am however pleased that my LCO proposal has persuaded the Environment Minister to look at how she can use her current powers to improve the way planning policy takes account of Transport and to ensure that local authorities are able to ensure transport plans are used whenever possible.

"I thank the Minister for offering to work with me on this, and I am pleased to take up her offer."
