Presumed Consent could save thousands of lives

Welsh Lib Dem Spokesperson for Health Jenny Randerson AM has given the 'strongest possible welcome' to Edwina Hart's rejection of the Health Committee's report on presumed consent for organ donation.
Jenny Randerson was one of three members of the committee who filed a minority report calling for an LCO and rejecting the other member's findings.
Jenny Randerson said: "I welcome Edwina Hart's rejection of the committee report in the strongest possible terms. Ruling out an LCO at this stage would have been a missed opportunity to open up the biggest public debate on this issue. I am sure that an LCO and subsequent legislation would lead to the saving of countless lives down the line.
"This vindicates the position of those of us on the committee who felt that the majority report was not in line with the evidence we had heard.
"I'm also pleased that Edwina has strongly suggested that she favours a 'soft' system whereby the views and feelings of the family are always taken into account.
"This is one of the boldest and bravest decisions from a Government that I have become so used to criticising."
