Commenting on the announcement by the Health Minister, Edwina Hart that Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust will face two "assurance reviews", Welsh Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson and Cardiff Assembly Member Jenny Randerson said:
"I strongly welcome these assurance reviews. I have long argued that people in Cardiff and surrounding areas have been getting a lesser service than other parts of Wales, particularly when it comes to Accident and Emergency."
"The challenge now is to look forward and deliver for patients. I have warned successive Health Ministers on many occasions that in my view, the health service in Cardiff is under funded compared to other parts of Wales, particularly when taking into account the specific health challenges of its capital city status. I have today written to the Minister and again asked her that a wider review of relative funding issues is taken into account when looking at how to improve services in this area."
