Healthy kids Measure laid before Assembly3.02.00pm GMT Thu 13th Mar 2008
Cardiff Central AM and Welsh Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson, Jenny Randerson has today laid her Assembly Measure to ensure healthy school meals before the Assembly. The Measure - the first new Welsh Law to be put forward by an AM who is not in the cabinet, will ensure that minimal nutritional standards are guaranteed in all food served in schools. It will now be scrutinised in detail by a Committee of Assembly Members. The broad principle of the Measure has already received widespread support both in the Assembly and from a cross-section of outside organisations. Jenny Randerson AM said: "I am delighted that healthy meals for our children has moved a step closer today. I think there is a general acceptance among parents that when their children go off to school, they should be provided with food that is healthy, nutritious and safe. "I am delighted that I have had the opportunity to bring such an important set of proposals forward under the Assembly's new powers. I am very confident that this will signal an upsurge in the way the Assembly can make a difference to people's lives." Notes: 1. The Proposed Measure is laid before the Assembly today (Friday). 2. It will now pass to a committee stage where AMs will have the chance to scrutinise and amend it.
