Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

Randerson calls on Social Services overspend can no longer be ignored

10.49.00am GMT Thu 6th Dec 2007

Responding to figures that show that the social services overspend is at £50 million, an increase of 257% since 1998-99 Jenny Randerson, Welsh Liberal Democrat health spokesperson said

"I have repeatedly pressed Ministers on socials services overspending. Just last week I pressed the Finance Minister. I said then that with nearly all local authorities overspending there must be something wrong with the allocation from central government.

"This structural problem combined with the poor settlement for local government is making the life of local government impossible. Demands and responsibilities are going up but funding is not matching that.

"Maybe the Welsh Office could spare a few millions ?

"The work on pooled budgets cannot happen quickly enough"
