Welsh Budget is as clear on Finances as the Labour Party

9.04.59am GMT Mon 3rd Dec 2007

Today (Monday) the Finance Committee reported back on the Welsh Assembly Government's budget. The Finance Committee will not be proposing an alternative budget but has implored the Minister to make serious changes to the final budget in their hard hitting report.

Welsh Liberal Democrat spokesperson Jenny Randerson said "There was not sufficient time to scrutinise the budget, particularly with regard to the individual Ministers. For example I remain unclear as to the intentions of the Minister on the massive reserves currently being built up.

"I am also unclear on how the One Wales Programme ties in with the different expenditure groups and how Local Government is supposed to cope.

"The comprehensive spending review should not be used as an excuse to rush through a budget which is about as clear on its finances as the Labour Party."
