Randerson to back Huhne in leadership contest

4.27.39pm GMT Fri 9th Nov 2007

Following the Liberal Democrat leadership hustings held on Wednesday night in Cardiff and a lot of reflection, Jenny Randerson AM, the Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Cardiff Central, has revealed that her support will lie with MP Chris Huhne in the two-man contest for leader of the Liberal Democrats.

"Like many members, I walked into the hustings unsure how to vote and I came out convinced we that both candidates would make a superb leader of the party. Nick Clegg gave an excellent speech, but after giving it a lot of thought, I believe that Chris Huhne will make the best leader of the Liberal Democrats."

"Chris called for a 'Liberal Revolution' for the UK, reforming the way we hold politicians to account and putting the environment at the very heart of government.

"Chris is a very experienced politician and knows a great deal about the economy from his time working in the city. With dark clouds surrounding the world banking system after the problems with Northern Rock, we need a leader who understands these important problems."
