Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

Randerson Wants Children's Hospital for All of Wales

10.48.52am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 25th Oct 2007

Following the decision by Cardiff Local Health Board not to support the current Strategic Outline Case (SOC) for the Phase 2 of the Children's hospital a meeting has been agreed to arrange a revised SOC.

Cardiff AM and Welsh Lib Dem health spokesperson Jenny Randerson said "I welcome the Minister's announcement that there is now a definite time for a decision on funding the next phase of the Children's Hospital. However there is concern that there is still no apparent mechanism for engagement of Local Health Board's beyond the immediate Cardiff area. This is supposed to be a Children's Hospital for the whole of Wales.

"The Noah's Ark Appeal has demonstrated the massive public support for this project by raising tens of millions of pounds in donations so the government should not procrastinate any more.

"The way that the funding for major projects in Wales is set up makes them very fragile. I hope to continue to see a strategic lead from the Minister who might like to look at Health Commission Wales as a funding mechanism"
