Randerson Welcomes Hospice Review

3.07.14pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 24th Oct 2007

Jenny Randerson AM, Health Spokesperson for the Welsh Liberal Democrats today welcomed the Health Minister's announcement of a review into Palliative Care through a Planning Group led by Vivienne Sugar of the Welsh Consumer Council. This follows on from a review initiated by the previous Minister which failed to provide sufficient detail.

Edwina Hart AM also stated that she is aiming for 50% of core funding for hospices to come from central government. Jenny said "I welcome this aim from Edwina but this will need a much steeper increase in funding than the £2 million recurring funding announced recently.

"If the previous review did not provide enough than I am happy that it goes ahead especially led by someone from an organisation which has already done so much research into hospice provision.

"We are in danger of falling further and further behind Scotland and England in terms of core funding for hospices."
