Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

Randerson Welcomes Commitment to Children's Hospital

1.46.21pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 3rd Oct 2007

Cardiff Central AM Jenny Randerson today welcomed the Health Minister's commitment to the Welsh Children's Hospital. Under questioning from the Welsh Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson the Health Minister stated that funding from the Welsh Assembly remained intact and that she would look at a new approach to revenue funding, with results by the end of the year.

Jenny said "I welcome these words from the Minister; I hope that it clears up some of the uncertainty and reassures those who have raised so much charity money for the scheme.

"The Noah's Ark Appeal has demonstrated the massive public support for this project by raising tens of millions of pounds in donations. The Plaid-Labour Government simply cannot sit back and allow the project to flounder now.

"The way that the funding for major projects in Wales is set up makes them very fragile. We now need a strategic lead from the Minister, who needs to provide the £3 million required centrally, probably via Health Commission Wales."
