Government still failing on Physiotherapy Targets - Randerson

12.08.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 13th Sep 2007

Welsh Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson Jenny Randerson expressed concern that more people are waiting for physiotherapy in Wales.

Mrs Randerson said: "The number of patients waiting more than six months for physiotherapy services rose in July by 125 on the previous month.

"The Government is trying to do more with fewer physiotherapists. Training places for physiotherapy have been reduced annually since 2003 and there has been a reduction in the number of positions for newly qualified physiotherapists in Wales.

"How are the Government going to reduce the numbers on the waiting lists if they aren't investing enough in physiotherapy? They are failing patients that need these services."

Note/Nodiadau:

Official figures on physiotherapy waiting times for July include an estimate of those waiting in Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust. The figures are available here: http://new.wales.gov.uk/docrepos/40382/40382313/statistics/health/health-2007/sdr126-2007.pdf?lang=en
