Randerson salutes saving of Llanishen Reservoir2.49.27pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 16th Aug 2007
Cardiff AM Jenny Randerson was today delighted to hear that Western Power Distribution (WPD) has lost out in their bid to build at Llanishen reservoir on grounds including: · National planning policy · Flood risk matters · Harm to SSSI status of the area and the integrity of the Nant Fawr corridor · The commonly used recreation land that would have been lost. Jenny said "Despite the strong arm tactics being used by WPD against residents who opposed their plans to build on Llanishen Reservoir the right result has been reached. "The development would have had a serious impact on this unique urban oasis in the City, providing as it does unparalleled features that attract both wildlife and sporting activities in the form of angling and sailing. "I just hope that they don't follow through on their childish and illegal threat to drain the reservoir in retribution or prolong the matter any longer. The people of Cardiff have made their feelings clear and now want to see this wonderful resource opened up. "Throughout this process the Welsh Liberal Democrat Council has stood up for the people of Cardiff's interests." Notes: WPD undertook a Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (As Amended): Section 78 appeal with the Sustainability Minister in which it was deemed that the benefits did not outweigh the substantial objections to the scheme. Ends/diwedd
