Carers Money not enough says Randerson

9.50.35am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 3rd Aug 2007

Welsh Lib Dem Social Services spokesperson Jenny Randerson AM, said: "While I welcome the apparent new £1.54 million that is going towards recruiting short break carers, this is a long way short of what the Welsh Liberal Democrats were offering and that carers need.

"The Liberal Democrats want enshrined rights for carers including respite care, things which Plaid and Labour rejected in the recent Welsh Liberal Democrat debate. Small things like respite care and access to information can create a win-win situation for the NHS, the taxpayer and carers.

"I have numerous friends and constituents who have direct experience of caring and the pressures it creates. The Welsh Liberal Democrats are passionate about creating a better Wales for carers but it appears that the new government is no different from that which performed a U turn on free home care for the disabled."
