The End of the Line for Mobile Phone Ban?

12.00.00am GMT Mon 19th Mar 2007

UK Health Minister Andy Burnham stated in the last week that there was now 'no reason' for an outright ban on mobile phones in hospitals.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson Jenny Randerson said "This gives hospitals a clear signal to operate a sensible approach to mobile phones so that in areas away from sensitive equipment people can avoid the excessive telephone charges.

"Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust generated £49,194 last year alone from public telephones. Conwy and Denbighshire generated £64,153.

"No longer can health care providers claim that a complete ban is necessary."
