Randerson condemns 9 cancelled ops for 87 year old Cardiff pensioner

9.27.33am GMT Wed 14th Mar 2007

Jenny Randerson AM, Welsh Liberal Democrats Health Spokesperson has urged the First Minister to take up the case of an elderly woman who has had 9 different dates for a serious operation, cancelled on the NHS. The reasons ranged from insufficient number of beds through to there being more urgent cases and the operation not being deemed a priority.

Jenny later challenged the Health Minister on the amount of time the constituent has had to wait who called it 'on the face of it, unacceptable'

Welsh Liberal Democrat Health spokesperson Jenny Randerson said the treatment of the patient on the health service was "inhumane", stating:

"The NHS in Wales is stumbling from crisis to crisis under the Labour government and I fear this is merely the tip of the iceberg. My immediate concern is for my constituent and her having the operation as soon as possible."

"The NHS is seriously failing my constituent. I have asked the First Minister to take a personal interest and I am pleased he has agreed to look at the case."
