Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

PCS Rally Addressed

11.10.06am GMT Wed 31st Jan 2007

Today up to 23,000 civil servants strike across Wales as part of a PCS (Public and Commercial Services Union) protest over jobs, pay and privatisation. Jenny Randerson, AM for Cardiff Central will address the rally at the Temple of Peace in the heart of Cardiff's civic centre.

"While I understand the need for efficiency Wales can simply not afford 5,000 job losses, it is also counterproductive to run down job centres and other offices in areas of high unemployment.

"The devolved government should have a stronger say in the Welsh civil service as the civil service has such a major impact on Wales both in terms of its services and employment.

"The Labour government has led the civil service into chaos. While they are putting big money into making NHS and Local Government pay fairer they are going in the opposite direction in the Civil service. An identical person working in two places doing a very similar job could get two very different salaries."

Notes:

Jenny Randerson AM will be addressing the rally between 12 noon and 1.00 pm in the Temple of Peace, Cathays Park, Cardiff

Ends/diwedd
