Jenny Randerson - Standing up for Cardiff Central

Randerson Launches One World Week

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 23rd Oct 2006

Tomorrow (United Nations Day), at the Welsh Assembly. Jenny Randerson AM for Cardiff Central, Saleem Kidwai of the Muslim Council for Wales and the Most Rev. Peter Smith, Archbishop of Cardiff are launching the Welsh Programme of events for 'One World Week'

Every year One World Week seeks to highlight some of the gaps affecting our world and encourage people to find ways of closing them. This year, action on the environment and on reducing violence is prioritised - issues that affect us all.

Events include climate change discussions, an evening analysing the cultural influence of Islam and a Filipino Evening.

Jenny said "It is really pleasing to see different communities in Cardiff coming together to further unity amongst the people of the world. The world is increasingly a sort of global village, no longer are actions confined to a small area. The 24th of October is UN Day - a day that symbolises peace and co-operation and a day that Welsh Assembly Members can join together in action for our One World."
