Stop homophobic bullying

The Cardiff Liberal Democrats have launched a campaign against homophobic bullying.

On Saturday 2nd September at the Cardiff Mardi Gras, Jenny Randerson AM and Jenny Willott MP will launch the first step in the campaign with a petition against Homophobic Bullying at the Cardiff Mardi Gras.

Jenny Randerson AM, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Cardiff Central, commented, "Homophobic bullying is an issue for the whole school, not just for a victimised minority. This is not a matter of 'political correctness' but about pupil behaviour and the right of parents to feel confident that their child will be safe in school.

"Improving the situation in schools is down to effective school leadership and getting the entire school community to accept that all pupils should be treated with respect."

Jenny Willott, Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Cardiff Central, added, " Homophobic bullying affects many pupils, teachers and school staff whether they are lesbian, gay, bisexual or straight and can cause lasting harm."

"It is time that the Government had a clear strategy to stamp out homophobia in schools. I am proud today to be launching the 'Stop Homophobic Bullying' petition at the Cardiff Mardi Gras."
